Plaster that survives a fit-out programme

Commercial work is a different problem from a house. The date is fixed, the drawings change late, and whatever goes in has to take a decade of people leaning on it. Castings come off a mould to a drawing you signed, crated to site in the sequence your programme needs.

What these projects tend to need

A room that has to look old on day one

New-build restaurants and bars trading on a period look. Run cornice, a panelled ceiling and a couple of columns do more for that than any amount of reclaimed furniture, and they photograph better.

Repeat units, identical each time

A brand rolling out. Once the mould exists, the tenth unit is the same casting as the first — the profile does not drift the way site-run work does, and the second store costs less than the first.

Feature walls and reliefs

Panels and running ornament as the backdrop a room is designed around. Cast flat, delivered in sections, fixed and jointed so the joins do not read.

Columns that arrive in halves

Shafts and capitals cast hollow in two halves, taken round an existing post and jointed on site. No structure, no crane, and a steel column becomes a classical one in an afternoon.

Specifying it

  1. Send the elevation. A drawing, a moodboard, or a photograph of a room you want the feeling of. We will tell you what the profile is and what it costs by the foot.
  2. Sample, then drawings. A cast sample in the finish you intend to specify, then shop drawings dimensioned and signed off before any mould is opened.
  3. Choose the material for the room. Fibre-reinforced gypsum for dry interiors, GRP where it has to be light, GRC where it has to take weather or a service corridor. See materials and shipping.
  4. Crated to the programme. Delivered in the order the site needs it rather than all at once into a room that is still being framed.

The practical questions

Will it pass a commercial inspection?
Gypsum and GRC are non-combustible materials and are specified in commercial interiors routinely. What your inspector needs is the data for the specific product and the fixing detail, both of which we supply — but the approval is theirs to give and we will not claim it in advance.
How late can the design change?
Until the mould is cut, cheaply. After that a change means a new model, which is time and money. This is the honest reason we push for drawings signed off early — not paperwork for its own sake.
Can you match something from another unit?
Yes, and it is common on a rollout where the original supplier has gone. A length out of the existing store, or clear photographs with a scale, and the profile is modelled to match.
Do you work outside Washington?
Regularly. We install nationwide, or cast, crate and ship to your contractor with drawings. Larger schemes consolidate into one container.

Send the drawing

An elevation, a schedule, or a photograph of the look. You get a profile, a rate by the foot and a lead time — and trade terms if you are specifying regularly.
