About this piece
Cast plaster forms an elongated ceiling medallion around a raised oval centre with a circular opening for a chandelier or pendant. Fine radial fluting and a segmented border frame the centre, while shell-like fans project at four points. Layered acanthus scrolls, open oval loops and modelled roses extend symmetrically along the vertical axis. The oblique view shows substantial relief, crisp veining and undercut foliage.
