About this piece
Cast plaster ceiling medallion arranged around a layered central boss with radiating acanthus leaves and narrow enriched borders. Eight symmetrical sections extend across the plain circular field, combining scrolling foliage, flower rosettes, looped laurel swags and crossed linear details. Open spaces between the raised ornament give the design a light, pierced character, while the deeper leaves and curled terminals create clear shadow.
