About this piece
Cast ornament forms this circular ceiling medallion around a deeply modelled centre of scrolling acanthus leaves, pierced openings and a central fitting point. Four radial bands divide the inner field, with shell paterae and beaded outlines placed between them. The broad outer register combines open trelliswork with alternating foliate forms, enclosed by a small-scale moulded border. Crisp undercutting gives the foliage and lattice visible depth. The balanced neoclassical arrangement suits chandelier and pendant settings in formal reception rooms, dining rooms, entrance halls and traditionally detailed interiors.
