About this piece
Cast plaster crown moulding and cornice combines broad plain bands with concentrated passages of deeply modelled rocaille ornament. Floral rosettes, shell forms, acanthus leaves and tight C-scrolls gather around open cartouches, while the enriched lower edge drops into a pronounced scalloped silhouette. Repeating sections carry the ornament along the ceiling line, with coordinated corner work maintaining the pattern at returns.
