About this piece
Cast plaster forms an ornate fireplace surround with a rounded rectangular opening, curved outer jambs and a broad, shaped mantel shelf. Deep-relief scrolls, acanthus leaves and clustered flowers spread across the frieze and continue down both sides. Repeating latticework fills the inner panels, punctuated by small floral details. Large rosettes and coiled volutes mark the upper corners, while layered bases anchor the surround. The dense, symmetrical ornament suits Rococo interiors and decorative fireplace compositions.
