About this piece
Cast plaster forms this tall Baroque fireplace surround, with an arched firebox opening beneath a densely modelled figural composition. Draped male and female figures sit among winged cherubs, flowers, foliage and deep scrollwork, while birds and streaming fabric animate the upper field. A radiating fan and shell ornament mark the arch, and enriched side supports carry the mantel line. The strong projection and undercut details suit formal living rooms, reception interiors and historic restoration schemes requiring a fully integrated ornamental fireplace surround.
