About this piece
Cast plaster gives this Baroque fireplace surround deep folds, projecting figures and densely layered ornament. Three putti occupy the sides and mantel shelf, while sweeping drapery crosses the upper register and falls around a shell-shaped canopy. Floral clusters, acanthus leaves and large scrolls fill the jambs, with a framed cartouche centered at the hearth. Cast in our Seattle studio, the fireplace surround suits richly detailed libraries, salons and formal reception rooms, as well as ornamental plaster restoration where a strongly figural composition is required.
